Did we mention we have Patrick Lencioni !!!!!

  • Most of our listeners are younger leaders, many leading a team for the very first time. Give them your "#1 DO" and your "#1 DON'T".
  • Change is hard. The President of Fuller Seminary said “people don’t fear change they fear loss” So when taking over a role at a church give us some advice about how to implement change roll out an effective change management strategy.
  • In your book, 5 Disfunctions of a team, you make the case that TRUST is the very most important quality among a team...so lack of trust is the biggest disfunction. How might you equate that with building trust with young teenagers and their parents in a church setting?
  • Define the difference between Mission and Vision?
  • In your experience, what would most teams identify as a primary source of discouragement?
  • You seem to be a genius at taking big, hard to tackle, leadership issues and boiling them down to easy to grasp and implement ideas and principles. Your books are short, but loaded with truth and pragmatic leadership gold. Give us a few tips on making our message simple and easy for our audience (young teenagers) to grasp.
  • What do you do in a situation where you have more practical experience than your boss.  Most Youth workers report to people who have never done youth ministry.
  • Sometimes we cast vision, but then struggle to implement it.  How can we be great implementers of vision.

Youtube, this is all attached to the Generation Z tip of the week (read below).

Youth Cartel, Marko (Episode 0003) and Adam the founders of the youth cartel talk about managing conflict.

Our first Blog Review comes to us from Kevin Libick, he is a student pastor with over 15 years of ministry experience. Most of that time has been dedicated to middle school ministry. Currently, he is the Student Ministry Pastor at Christ Chapel Bible Church in Fort Worth, TX. He wrote an article I LOVED about tackling tough transitions so I reached out to get him on the podcast to talk more abou tit.

Generation Z Tip of the week (this is from Ashely Bohinc at Orange... She was on Episode 0005) Recent studies have shown between 80-95% of Generation Z uses YouTube more than any other social media platform.  I (Justin) talk about some ideas to use YouTube in your junior high ministry.  Also Orange asked middle schoolers all over the country what YouTube channels they are currently watching. Here's what they said!

Leaving well (leaving a good taste in everyones mouth)

As you leave you will be remembered by your last month… regardless of how long you have been there, how great you were or how terrible you were.. your last month will say how you are remembered… .

7 things I would do when leaving somewhere

1. Tell your boss first.
2. Don’t go out burning bridges.
3. Don’t spend the next persons money.
4. Get all the passwords and log ins, subscriptions all together for the next person.
5. Write thank you notes, a lot of them, and meet with people.
6. Don’t take stuff. Leave things.
7. Encouragement and support is key for leaders and parents.

Starting somewhere new. (Cooking with Crisco)

You cant start at the new place where you left off at the old place.

7 things I would do when starting some where new.

  1. Who do I need to meet with?
  1. How we do currently communicate with leaders and parents?
  1. What do we do when a new kid shows up?
  1. What metrics do we track and how do we track it?
  1. Who are the volunteers?
  1. What is currently on the calendar?
  1. What supplies and subscriptions do we have?

Extra thoughts.

-Take a week or 2 off in between if you can.

-Think about what you post at your new place.

-Work until your last day!
